OSHA History and Purpose
The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) was formed in 1970 due to the increasing and alarming rate of occupational injuries, deaths, illness, and disease caused by workplace hazards. OSHA has the responsibility of ensuring that each employee is provided with a workplace free from recognized hazards, and also with training about hazards, and also with training about hazards they may be exposed to. OSHA has promulgated its regulations in Title 29 of the Code of Federal Regulation (CFR). Those impacting the property management industry are found in Chapters 1910 and 1926. With the chapters of the CFR, OSHA has identified significant workplace hazards and has also set forth training recommendations designed to educate and protect employees on the job.
